Chai Latte meets Hot Chocolate in this sugarless spicy cocoa!
Oh, yes! We’re going there.
Let me start by giving a shoutout to rooibos chai tea. It’s the BEST. All your favorite chai spices with the naturally sweet and relaxing properties of red tea.
This means the tea is naturally very sweet from the cinnamon and vanilla in the chai, and from the blissful sweetness of Rooibos.
In my opinion, it’s too sweet to sip by itself, which is why it pairs oh-so-perfectly with the bitterness and richness of extra-dark chocolate, and creaminess of almond milk.
A match made in heaven!
You would seriously never know this hot chocolate is only sweetened with tea.
Pretty epic recipe to have in your back pocket. Ummm . . . . I mean front burner 😉
And certainly a beverage that will keep you warm and merry this Fall and Winter. So go give your old hot chocolate or chai latte a much needed makeover as you prepare to indulge in this chocolate chai ecstasy.
Herbal Chai Hot Chocolate (No Sugar!)
3 bags Rooibos Chai tea (or another herbal chai)
3/4 c simmering water
For the hot chocolate:
3/4 c unsweetened vanilla almond milk
1/2 oz. 88-100% cacao chocolate (Lily’s stevia-sweetened chocolate is your best bet if high cacao content is too bitter for you)
Dash ground cinnamon and cacao powder, for topping
Add the tea bags tea to a mason jar. Pour the hot water over them, cover and let steep 5-10 minutes. Discard the tea bags.
Chop the chocolate. Add the chocolate, almond milk, and 1/4 c tea concentrate to a small saucepan.
Gentle heat, stirring with a whisk until small bubbles begin to form.
Pour into your favorite mug and sip away!
*Pro Tip: Bake a loaf of Cinnamon Cold Brew Banana Bread to pair with this cocoa, and thank me later 😉
