Better-Than-Coffee Morning Elixir

Yes, you read that right. BETTER than coffee.

I am THAT confident in this magical beverage that is rich, smooth, slightly chocolate-y from cacao, with caramel undertones from maca. It’s what angels drink =)

Although research show that organic coffee has benefits, it messes with cortisol levels, which can have disastrous effects on the body, especially for those of use with caffeine sensitivities.

Trading coffee for herbal tea can be rough, especially if you aren’t a morning person and have spent years craving that coffee jolt. You know what I’m talking about 😉

I’m not asking you to give up caffeine. And to your relief, cacao has a decent amount (albeit 1 tbsp has 10 times less than a cup of coffee). However not only does it give you a steadier dose of energy than coffee, it also packs mega-nutrients and superfood power!

Maca, an adaptogen is probably my favorite ingredients. It originates in South America, as do many of my favorite foods. (In fact, I only eat chocolate from South America because it is far superior in taste and quality to any other origin!)

And if cacao and maca aren’t amazing enough on their own, combining them with some steamed milk is beyond heavenly!

I tell ya, it’s time to trade your whole bean, fancy, shmancy, coffee (there’s actually a shortage of coffee beans!), for an equally dreamy and satisfying morning elixir that has mega-flavor without the cortisol-spike.

Pair this faux coffee with these fluffy muffins or these orgasmic pancakes, and your mornings will never be the same =)

Note: I recommend buying both maca and cacao powder on Amazon.

Better-Than-Coffee Morning Elixir – make 1 large or 2 small drinks

3/4 c filtered water
3/4 c almond or coconut milk
1 tsp maca powder
1 tsp cacao powder
Pinch cinnamon
Optional (for richness): 1 tbsp coconut butter or coconut oil
Optional (for spice and immunity): 1 drop Young Living Thieves Essential Oil
Optional (for sweetness): 1-2 tsp raw honey or coconut nectar

Heat the water and milk to a simmer. Remove from heat. Whisk in the cacao, maca, cinnamon, and coconut butter/oil/sweetener if using, and pour into a mug. Enjoy immediately.

If you have a frother, you can buzz the cacao and maca with a small amount of milk then pour into the mug with the hot milk. This creates more of a latte effect, and preserves the nutrients in the superfoods a bit better =)
